LaB: Lindy and Blues.
LaB is a weekly lindy hop and blues dance practicum held in west Philadelphia. Every Tuesday night, we provide a group lesson (no partner necessary) in both dance forms, followed by a two hour practicum including social dancing to swing and blues music.
LaB's mission is to create a friendly, dynamic, inspiring environment in Philadelphia for people to learn and practice Lindy Hop and blues dance. Founded in January, 2007, LAB is an all-volunteer organization. All funds gleaned from LAB go towards improving the dance community in Philadelphia. Funds are used to: Put on local events including classes, workshops, and dances; bring in teachers, DJs and live bands from other cities; award scholarships for out-of-town dance events to committed students in our community; support 'dancer residencies,' allowing traveling teachers to live and teach in Philadelphia for up to one month.
By strengthening ties between the Philadelphia dance scene and those surrounding, and teaching and organizing classes which emphasize the importance of lead-follow connection, musicality and other fundamentals, LAB is building a bigger, stronger, more passionate community of Lindy Hop and blues dancers in and around Philadelphia.
