I see a link to 'Add Photos' to an event that has past. The next screen asks for a URL to a 'photo album'. Clicking on the Photos link at the top of the page shows public event photos, but contains no links or buttons to create a new album. The Help contains no information on how to add photos to an event, or what the definition of an album is.

Could someone please explain the process? It is not intuitive.

Hi Darien,

Sorry about the confusion. It sounds like you'd like to upload photos of your event to the event page. At the moment you can add albums to your event that you've uploaded to another photo sharing site, like Flickr, Photobucket, etc... In order to add an album from any of these external photo sharing sites, you must do the following:

1) first upload those photos to that site (make sure they are publicly visible)
2) then copy and paste the URL of the album (or 'Set' in Flickr's terms) into the input area on the 'Add Photos' page that you found by clicking 'Add Photos'on the event page.
3) the whole album will be imported into your event automatically!

In the near future we will be adding a direct photo uploading feature so you'll be able to upload your photos directly to Socializr.

Please feel free to ask any more question,

Boris

Hi Boris,

Thanks for this bit of clarification -- but now there are additional questions:

Is there a list of 'supported' third-party photo sites? You mention two by name, then include 'etc' which is a bit vague. There's also no mention of these sites in any the help area, or on the page where the URL is requested.

What if I have a directory of publicly-available images on a web server? Can I point to the directory? What constitutes an 'album' that Socializr recognizes and can import images from? Or more specifically, what is Socializr looking for when provided with a URL?

Thanks.

Hi Darien,

Our site definitely works with Flickr, Photobucket, shutterfly, smugmug, picasa, and imagestation. We try to scan all of the photos from any url that you will pass in, so if you have a page with publicly available photos, we should be able to grab them. However, if there's some custom mechanism for paging, we may not be able to grab all of the pages.

Just give it a shot with your web server url and it should grab all of the photos wrapped in IMG tags.

Hope that clarifies the process for you,

Boris

Ah... it SCRAPES the entered URL for IMG tags. That is immensely helpful. I created a dummy HTML page with the images, and it worked great. Thanks. Thu 8/7/08

Love this feature - but I'm wondering does it notify all the past guests of the event, so they know to come back and look at the photos?

Many thanks for integrating with Flickr. So happy to be using Socializr. It's a much 'bettr' experience than other sites. :-)
